Chief Designer, Ship Structures
The Chief Designer, Ship Structures will assume a senior design position at Robert Allan Ltd. requiring the supervision and guidance of a supporting staff of marine structural design specialists in the design of steel and aluminum commercial vessels, establishment of design and presentation standards, review of the work produced, and support of senior design staff on efficient structural design concepts and design tradeoffs. You will be a key member of the ship structure specialty team responsible for supervising and mentoring supporting staff in the design of all aspects of ship structures.
Your qualifications include:
- Minimum of 10 years experience in ship structural design
- Formal training in the design of ship structures
- Thorough knowledge in ship construction methods and marine structural drafting, con-ventions, and techniques
- Ability to plan and manage tasks within the structural design group for the successful completion of multiple challenging projects
- Strong familiarity with Classification Society rules for steel and aluminum vessels
- Additional knowledge in the following related areas are considered strong assets:
- 3D marine structural modeling
- Computer lofting methods
- Shipbuilding production methods and conventions
- Ship repair
- Weight estimating methods of ship structure
- Strong computer and software skills, including AutoCAD, Excel, Word. Experience with ANSYS is a definite asset
- Shipyard and/or sea experience is a definite asset
