Designer, Ship Structures

As a Designer, Ship Structures, you will use established design and presentation stand­ards and design calculations to Class rules to create AutoCAD structural drawings of steel and aluminum commercial vessels.  You will coordinate your work with that of other members of the design group.

Your qualifications include:

  • Degree or Diploma in Naval Architecture
  • Basic knowledge of strength of materials
  • Knowledge and experience in ship structural design
  • Knowledge in ship construction methods, conventions, and techniques
  • Familiarity with Classification Society rules for steel and aluminum vessels
  • Efficient marine structural drafting skills using AutoCAD software
  • Additional knowledge in the following related areas are considered strong assets:
    • Shipbuilding production methods and conventions
    • Preparation of weight estimates of ship structures
    • 3D modeling

  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Be employable in Canada (Canadian citizen, Landed Immigrant, or in possession of the required work permit)
  • Excellent technical writing skills and experience in preparation of reports with highly professional presentation
  • Good command of written and spoken English
