Senior Structural Engineer
The Senior Structural Engineer will play a key role at Robert Allan Ltd. in the design of steel and aluminum commercial vessels. You will provide expert technical guidance to a professional team of naval architects and engineers in the design of ship structures including hull and superstructure, deck machinery foundations, machinery foundations, towing fittings and other marine-related structures. You will review work produced, support the establishment of design and reporting standards, and maintain in-house analysis software and design tools. You will closely coordinate your activities with naval architects, structural designers, and project management staff.
Your qualifications include:
- Professional Engineer qualification, or eligibility for registration by the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia
- Broad knowledge of general steel and aluminum structural design and ship construction methods and analytical techniques
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills in:
- Mechanics of materials, statics, and dynamics
- Finite Element Analysis techniques
- Design of bolted and welded connections
- Failure analysis of steel and aluminum structures, including fatigue
- Structural vibrations
- Strong computer and software skills, including AutoCAD, Excel, Word. Experience with ANSYS is a definite asset
- Ability to plan and manage tasks within the structural analysis group, for the successful completion of multiple challenging projects
- Willingness to mentor and train technical staff
